Snowflakes

Snowflakes

“The fog,” Carl Sandburg wrote, “comes

on little cat feet.”

If so,

snow

arrives on kitten paws,

(claws still sheathed, thank God)

fluffy puffballs of frozen vapour

that tumble over each other

pouncing rolling dancing falling

tussling and tangling

over and over

until they tire of play

and settle into silent sleep…

And let the next litter

of kitten paws

take their place.
